“Doodle Zoo is a children’s fabric line. The animals are drawn in a style that captures the hand drawn simplicity of animal illustrations typical of children’s storybooks and coloring books. It’s a style of art that has been popularized in leading mail order companies specializing in children’s home décor, such as Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod.”
“Jungle animals and safari themes continue to be one of the most popular selling themes for kid’s rooms and nursery décor for baby boys and girls.”
Baby and kid’s quilts are big business for quilt stores; the perfect gift items and first-time projects for beginners.
The 57/58-inch wide panel is so versatile and easy to work with. It features a unique layout, with animals running in a variety of directions and sizes. With is decorative sashing and framed animal blocks, it can simply be cut in full repeat and finished with a simple, unpieced border for a quick and easy gift item. Just 1 yard of panel fabric plus borders and backing makes this a very
affordable gift item. [See FREE pattern download from RJR.] The individual panel blocks are set in 3 different sizes to enable you to create a collage effect inside quilt designs. Some are square (8 inches square), and some are rectangular (17 by 24
inches and 8 by 17 inches). You can fussy cut the animals to create an appliqué crib quilt, baby bumpers, toy bins and appliqué pillows in the shapes of animals. Take a look at this adorable crib set and pillow from Land of Nod. Add a buttonhole stitch around the cut out animals for a decorative touch. You can fussy cut the animals and create colorful quilted wall art for a baby and toddler’s room. See how wellRJR’s Crazy for Dots accentuate the animals! The colorations are clear and bright and generic, so that the line can work for both boys and girls alike. The allover animal prints (styles 9080 & 9081) are great focals to feature inside blocks and borders. They work wonderfully to enhance the panel, as shown in the kit projects. For those
shops who shy away from panels, they offer a great alternative. Style 9082 offers the line a touch of geometry without being a plaid or a stripe. It’s great for inner borders, sashing and binding. There are a variety of tonal coordinates (styles 9082, 9084, and 9085) that work to support the panel and allover animal prints. Many of the designs are repeats of the backgrounds used in the panel design. The large bubbles print (style 9083) offers a new twist on a polka dot. The way the dots are arranged, a secondary diamond pattern emerges to make it even more interesting. It’s great for sashing, borders and backings.
RJR’s Cotton Supreme Solids and Crazy for Dots & Stripes work to expand the line even further.
